Major Milestone

Well...It's happened. My children have successfully transitioned into their "big beds." This milestone was really difficult for me (again). Richard stayed in the bassinet beside my bed much longer than Shirley ever did, despite his enormity, because I didn't want to have to battle Shirley to stay in bed when she may not--ahem--want to go to bed. So far, it hasn't really been a problem.
Well, one night comes to mind... Our bedrooms are connected by French doors. Richard put Shirley in her big bed, and came out her bedroom door. Moments later, she emerged from our bedroom door. He circled back around and put her back in her bed and came out through our room. She followed through her own bedroom door. It went on like this for a few more minutes until Richard had had enough and made his point clear. I watched the whole thing from the couch--it was like watching "Laurel and Hardy Go to Bed."
Overall, however, the whole transition has gone very well. I still have the bassinet at my bedside, though, because I miss my little boy. Isn't that silly?

I think it's important to note that SJ sleeps with her head at the wrong end of the bed--in the same direction as when she was in her crib. I think her feng shui is off, otherwise.Woke him up with the flash...oops.

Security

Someone told me once that when a baby sleeps like this, with his arms up, it's because he feels secure and loved.
I don't know if that's true or not. I guess I don't care--it's a nice thing to believe.

WHAT are you dreaming about??

The other night, I snuck into Shirley's room to get more diapers for Baby Richard. I'm glad I did because I found SJ completely naked under her covers. I tried to re-dress her without pulling her out of her crib, but to no avail. I finally had to lift her out to the changing table. She woke up just enough to hold her legs in the air for her re-diapering. When I stood her up to pull her pants up, she grabbed my face, looked me square in the eye and told me she was gonna "POUND THE ROCK." Then she put her head down on my shoulder and went straight back to sleep.
Apparently to "pound the rock" means to run the football down the field. This leads me to two conclusions: apparently Daddy has been teaching SJ a new language...and we had a little boy not a moment too soon.

Let it be known:

Naomi is posting weekly how she feels as her pregnancy progresses. You might have noticed that I'm not doing that. Here's why:
I feel like crap.
All the time.
I don't need to tell you once a week, interweb, that I feel lousy.
I guess I should mention how I feel at least once, though, since this is serving as a baby book type thingy for my children.
So there.
I am counting the days until I am in the second trimester and will hopefully start to feel better, but as I start Week 11, I have low hopes. I am dizzy and nauseous, my stomach hurts ALL. THE. TIME. If I don't eat regularly (which is the last thing I want to do), I get more dizzy and nauseous. My hips and thighs ache. My nose, as previously mentioned, is on hyperdrive, I cry at commercials, gameshows and sitcoms, and I can't sleep at night time. During the day, should you appear without calling, if--and that's a big, fat IF--I answer the door, I will most likely have just gotten up from a near-permanent prone position on the couch (which, incidentally, my feet hang off the end--it's a pitiful sight). Coca-Cola, my former BFF, makes me unbelievably sick and gassy. Oh, and can we talk about GAS? This AIR that is trapped in my body? WHERE IS IT COMING FROM??? I think Richard is contemplating moving in with Shirley Jean. I can't say I blame him.
And on top of it all, I struggle daily with the fear of failing at mothering not one, but TWO children.
Feel sorry for me, interweb.
In happier news, this week, BittyWee can open and close his/her fists, his/her bones are beginning to harden and s/he is forming tooth buds that (God willing) will not appear in Baby's mouth until s/he is about 6 months old. Keep your fingers crossed. BittyWee measures 1.5 inches, about the size of a fig. I'm gonna go out and buy a fig this week, so I can hold it in my hand.

Craving of the week: Gas-X.

A Royal Slumber Party

Nice Shoes, Baby!

I LOVE putting shoes on the baby. I think it's hilarious. I have a pair of Robeez with a white Pedro-dog on them from Grandma Brenda that I'm counting the days until they fit. (They fall off at this point.) So watch for that post. : )

Little Miss had a good night last night, and only got up once and then slept til 9am. Everyone at the Desvousges Household feels a lot better today. Thanks for your encouragement, friends.

For the Record

Sleeping in 45-minute stints over the course of 8-10 hours does not count as a good night's sleep.
We're going on day four of this 45-minute sleep cycle.
Sigh.

p.s. Before you recommend it, no, just letting her cry doesn't work. I mean, unless I want her to cry ALL. NIGHT. LONG.

Plug

I have been fighting the pacifier battle. When my baby was born she sucked her thumb within minutes. My thought is that if she can pacify herself, why does she need a "plug?" Well, the problem is that she just can't seem to find those darn fingers when she needs them.
Last night, out of desperation, I offered her the pacifier. She was asleep instantly.
I cried, foolishly, near her bassinet and talked to God, "I so wanted her to suck her thumb," I said to Him. As soon as I said it out loud, I realized what a big deal this ISN'T. I fell asleep, too.
This morning when we needed a nap, I resigned myself to the idea that she would probably need her plug to fall asleep. I settled her in bed with it and snuck to the bathroom.

Imagine my joy when I came back to find this:

Redrum

Question:
Just because my baby screams bloody murder EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I change her, doesn't necessarily mean that she hates me and will need therapy some day, right? Right?
I actually just cleaned blood out of my ears.
Here she is sleeping another one off. I mean, after a night of only four hours of sleep, a girl has to do what she has to do.
