ShirleyGirly's First Bottle

I stood over Richard literally wringing my hands as he fed her. Everything went well and she still nurses just fine!

PNP

Last night when it was time to set up the pack n play for the baby, I told Richard I could hardly wait to watch him set itup. He said, "Why? Because you've already tried it and I haven't?" "Yep," I said, dancing with the baby. "I'll give you a hint. Put the sides up before you push the bottom down."
What did Richard do?
You guessed it.
I watched him try for about four minutes, and ofered to help. I handed over the baby and started over on the portable crib.
I had it set up in about 30 seconds.
Rich said, "Wow! That's slick!"

The Fifth Generation

Dear Erin & Richard:
I'm not going to write every night, but I do want to tell you some things tonight. I thought all day of her little face and her big eyes and little nose and chin, topped by red hair. She's a very beautiful baby! That's even with my bad eyesight. After you nursed her, I held her, and she laid there with her eyes open and stared right at me for the longest time. I hope what she saw was how much I love her. Her little hands gripped my fingers so tight ... a feeling I'll remember every day. Just wanted you to know that you have a very pretty baby.
I love you both and Shirley Jean.

Dear Naomi,

If you want to see the baby awake, you need to come over around 5am.
Duh!

Plug

I have been fighting the pacifier battle. When my baby was born she sucked her thumb within minutes. My thought is that if she can pacify herself, why does she need a "plug?" Well, the problem is that she just can't seem to find those darn fingers when she needs them.
Last night, out of desperation, I offered her the pacifier. She was asleep instantly.
I cried, foolishly, near her bassinet and talked to God, "I so wanted her to suck her thumb," I said to Him. As soon as I said it out loud, I realized what a big deal this ISN'T. I fell asleep, too.
This morning when we needed a nap, I resigned myself to the idea that she would probably need her plug to fall asleep. I settled her in bed with it and snuck to the bathroom.

Imagine my joy when I came back to find this:
