What do YOU think?

I'm all for nursing in public but I think it is best to drape a blanket over yourself and be somewhat discreet. That's what I was personally comfortable with and I always kept my eye out for any creepy men staring :) My secret: I have found that dressing rooms are one of the best spots to nurse in a store.

I was not comfortable nursing in public, however, it does not make me uncomfortable if other mamas do.

My kids didn't like using blankets becuase we all got too hot so I usually would find a quiet place, like a dressing room, where we didn't need to use a blanket. Had I been more adept at using the blanket I'd have felt comfortable in public I'm sure.

I'm all for others doing it - no problems with it. Wasn't for me though. With the twins it would have been impossible and with the little one, it would have been impossible trying to make the twins hold still long enough :)
Also - dressing room idea - genius! It would have never crossed my mind.

I've changed my view on this over the years. I used to be against nursing in public unless one was covered well. Though I still prefer it when women are discreet, I am now in favor of breastfeeding anytime, anywhere. Wow, I am surprising myself at my boldness.

We are one of the only developed countries that shames women for public breastfeeding. It's been said that people here are more apt to complain about a woman breastfeeding at a public pool than they would be about a woman in a very scantily clad bikini--showing way more skin. Shame on us!

P.S. Erin, in my Doula research, I also found out that it is not a requirement to be an R.N in order to become a Lactation Consultant, though some hospitals and such do require the R.N certification in addition. Mostly the requirements include some coursework and clinical experience. You had asked about this at Swampy's brunch & I thought you'd like to know. That would be a neat job, too. :)
