Jicama Week (32 Weeks)

I remember hitting week 32 with Shirley Jean and having to look up online what on earth a jicama is! BUT, apparently this week, BittyWee is as big as one. :)
According to BabyCenter.com:
By now, your baby weighs 3.75 pounds (pick up a large jicama) and is about 16.7 inches long, taking up a lot of space in your uterus. You're gaining about a pound a week and roughly half of that goes right to your baby. In fact, she'll gain a third to half of her birth weight during the next 7 weeks as she fattens up for survival outside the womb.
This is all a very nice way to say I'm getting huge-mongous. The only thing growing faster than my belly is my boobs. (Sorry, Kristi.) I made it through my whole first pregnancy with only a few stretch marks on my hips and thighs...JUST two nights ago, I discovered a little family of stretch marks underneath my belly-button. I'm upset.
I'm sorry it's been a month since I last posted a pregnancy picture, and I don't really have a very good excuse other than that I'm tired. I don't want to post a picture of myself in sweatpants and a nasty half-ponytail, and that's how I look most days. It's been a tough two weeks or so. All of a sudden, I am exhausted all the time. I could sleep twelve hourse a day or more.
At my appointment with Fern last week, I had only gained three more pounds, bringing me to a grand total of 17 pounds for this pregnancy so far. I am pleased with this--of course, catching the flu over Christmas didn't hurt. I am already starting to see Fern every two weeks. I can't believe how fast this has gone! My blood pressure remains low, and I'm assuming I passed my glucose test...I forgot to ask.
This baby is unbelievably active. With Shirley, I couldn't feel specific body parts moving around inside of me, just wild kicks. This time, I can feel elbows or feet or a head or bottom moving all around. This is NOT something one gets used to!
This week I have grown increasingly more clumsy with every passing minute. I drop things, spill things, run into walls...you name it, I've ruined it or run into it. Earlier this week I SMASHED my foot getting into the shower. My toe is still swollen and bruised. I don't think it's broken, but it's not pretty.
I think that's about it...this post has gotten long enough!

Updates

My brother says Shirley has a "todlet." A toddler-mullet. I guess this photo doesn't argue. We're working on growing her hair out a little more before her second birthday! I can't believe it's just around the corner!

I've been feeling guilty lately because I haven't updated you on either my pregnancy or on Shirley Jean's life hardly at ALL in the last couple weeks (OK, months...).
I thought it might be fun to share some "ShirleySpeak" with my loyal readers. As with all toddlers, it takes a trained ear, but Shirley is really learning to communicate by leaps and bounds.
Richard has been working with her on her ABC's, and of course, she loves "Q-R-S" and "N-O-P" the best because in her mind, they go together! I love being in the kitchen or folding clothes and hearing her sing, "N-O-P! Q-R-S!"
Shirley also loves to count. She frequently counts, "One, two...SIX!" But if prompted, she can count all the way to ten! She then throws both arms in the air and says, "I dit!" (I did it!)
Some of Shirley's common phrases right now are:
I dit! = I did it!
I skuck. = I'm stuck. This is SJ's catchall phrase for frustration. Frequently, she is "skuck" on the ground, wanting to be picked up, "skuck" in her high chair or the shopping cart. I've tried explaining gravity and the purpose of seatbelts, but she doesn't care.
I hep. = I need help, or I can help. Shirley is very good at helping mama unload the dishwasher. Oy.
Teese = Cheese. According to Shirley, cheese goes in everything. EVERYTHING. We made coffee cake together yesterday and she thought cheese would be a great addition.
Gookies = Nookies, pacifier. She needs at least two.
Again? = Daddy, do that dangerous acrobatic move to me again!
Melmo = EITHER Nemo or Elmo. Take your pick.
BamBam = Bambi. A current favorite and a nice break from Nemo. (Mama likes the music in Bambi best..."Drip, drip, drop little April shower...")
Pease = Please give me that RIGHT NOW!
Thankoo = Thank you.
O'ecome = You're welcome
Doose?Doose?Doose? = Juice. Juice can be water, milk or actual juice. Not orange juice, please.
Galk = Milk.
She has started adding "Mama" to the end of some sentences, which is really fun. It's so sweet to hear, "Thankoo, Mama!"
Shirley's favorite foods right now are cheese (of course), apples and...that's it. She would eat apples and cheese for every meal if I let her. I guess there are worse things! She will eat whatever I put in front of her, but she would rather have apples and cheese.
Shirley also LOVES anything that buckles. She wants to buckle her own belt in a shopping cart and loves buckling and re-buckling her seatbelt in a high chair. If we get a high chair at a restaurant that has a broken seat belt, we have a real problem. She's my little mechanic.

Shirley has taken to spending time in her toybox/ottoman. She empties it out and sits in it. The only problem is that once she gets in it, she can't get out! "Hep! I skuck!"

Empire Waist

Tonight, my friend, Kristen, was telling her family about my bridesmaid dress for Lauren's wedding when her son, Noah, interrupted, "She may be as big as a house, but she doesn't need to wear a whole empire!"

If Only...

I took this picture at my last OB appointment--I couldn't help myself.

The Magic Kingdom

Here are some of my favorites from Orlando. To see more pictures check out my Facebook account.
At our hotel in Orlando the daddies took the girlies swimming.
It was SO. COLD. That's true love if you ask me.
Shirley LOVED the slide at Downtown Disney. I'm still not sure why we even paid to go to the Magic Kingdom! She would have gone on the slide all day!
Pretty!
So cute. This is one of my favorites.

Partners in crime telling secrets already...

My sweetie riding the carousel.

Too much Mickey.

Shirley Jean's first trip to the beach!

Here are a couple of my favorite photos from SJ's very first trip to the beach:

She wasn't sure what to think at first.
Getting the hang of it.Daddy better hurry up! So sweet.
Cold!
There's nothing like the fresh ocean breeze in your face!

Party in the USA

I'm so disappointed that this one is sideways. Does anyone know if it's possible to fix it even though it's filmed sideways?

The Third Trimester

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of her head to her heels. She can open and close her eyes, which now sport lashes. This movement is more of a reflexive blink than a deliberate opening and closing, but it won't be long before she's batting those beauties at you.
This week, I'm feeling...ok. We are recovering from a NASTY bout with the flu, so my stomach has been "off" all week and with the stress of the holidays, I feel like battling exhaustion is a full-time effort.
I can hardly believe I'm already in my thrid trimester. That went so fast! It seems too early to not be able to sleep at night, to not be able to turn over in bed, to struggle to put on my shoes and socks. To have heartburn that is straight. from. hell. I kid you not--the fires of hades currently reside in my chest. There is no relief, no escape, no cure. I am drowning in a lake of fire...from my own belly.
I dreamt that BittyWee was a girl, born with a full head of very dark hair. If this heartburn is any indicator, my dream was probably right on the money. (About the hair, anyway. I don't know if heartburn has anything to do with girls or boys... :)
